Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Collapses Unexpectedly

Author:Kristen Update:May 20,2025

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared a disheartening update in his video titled 'A Bad Month.' He disclosed that he had been working on a Soma animated show, a project deeply personal to him due to his love for the 2015 survival horror game by Frictional Games. Jacksepticeye, a long-time fan of Soma, had streamed the game extensively upon its release and considers it among his top video games of all time.

In the video, Jacksepticeye expressed his excitement about the project, which involved year-long discussions with the game's developers. The animated show was set to go into full production, but it abruptly fell apart when an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction." This sudden change left Jacksepticeye "quite upset" and without the specifics of what transpired, as he chose not to delve into the details of the situation.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show has significantly impacted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025, leaving him feeling frustrated and uncertain about his future projects. He had planned to dedicate much of his time to this creative endeavor, anticipating less frequent uploads to his channel in favor of this larger project. However, with the show's collapse, his year's plans are now "flipped upside down," and he is unsure of what to prioritize moving forward.

Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director, Thomas Grip, mentioned the company's intention to shift focus away from solely horror-themed games, aiming to explore other emotional qualities in their future projects.
