Krafton Considers Renaming Dark & Darker Mobile

Author:Kristen Update:May 08,2025

The upcoming smartphone adaptation of the eagerly awaited hack 'n slash extraction dungeon crawler, Dark and Darker Mobile, is reportedly undergoing a name change. This development comes as Krafton, the game's publisher, has decided to terminate its agreement with the developer, Ironmace Studio. The timing of this decision couldn't be worse for Ironmace, who were recently ordered to pay $6 million in damages to Nexon due to an ongoing lawsuit. The lawsuit stems from Nexon's allegations that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized trade secrets from a canceled project, codenamed P3, to develop Dark and Darker.

Despite Krafton's assertion that the name change is unrelated to the lawsuit ruling, they have also announced the termination of their global licensing agreement with Ironmace. This means that Dark and Darker Mobile, under its new name, will be released as a completely standalone product.

The situation raises ethical questions, especially since Ironmace had initially filed a lawsuit against Nexon for copyright infringement. Now, even after ending their partnership, Krafton appears poised to rebrand and proceed with the project. This move suggests that the genre of extraction dungeon crawlers is gaining momentum, regardless of the legal battles.

For fans eagerly awaiting Dark and Darker Mobile, the news isn't entirely negative. Krafton has confirmed that they will stick to the planned global release schedule. However, should there be any changes or further developments, we will keep you informed.

We remain hopeful that the full launch of Dark and Darker Mobile will uphold the high standards we celebrated in our review. As the story unfolds, we'll continue to provide updates on this intriguing saga.
