Hasbro has exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering: they're set to bring the beloved card game to screens across the globe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro is teaming up with Legendary Entertainment to craft a shared Magic: The Gathering universe that will span both movies and TV shows, with the movie taking the lead.

Legendary's chairman of worldwide production expressed their commitment, saying, "We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering." Legendary Entertainment, known for blockbuster hits like Dune, the Godzilla franchise including Godzilla vs Kong, and Detective Pikachu, is steering this ambitious project.

While details are still emerging, it seems the movie and TV adaptations at Legendary will be separate from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set for Netflix. However, there's a chance that the plans have evolved, and the animated series might now be integrated into this expansive shared universe.

For those unfamiliar, Magic: The Gathering is a card game launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. It has since become one of the world's most popular trading card games. Wizards of the Coast was acquired by Hasbro back in 1999.

Hasbro is well-versed in transforming its products into cinematic experiences, with past successes including G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, the company is working on several projects, such as new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film.
