Batman and Deadpool Headline Marvel-DC Crossover After Two Decades

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 19,2025

The storied rivalry between Marvel and DC takes a backseat as the comic giants unite for their first crossover since 2003’s JLA/Avengers, with Batman and Deadpool leading the charge.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Marvel and DC are collaborating on two one-shot specials starring the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth. Marvel’s Deadpool/Batman #1, written by Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and illustrated by Greg Capullo (Batman), pairs with DC’s Batman/Deadpool #1, penned by Grant Morrison (Batman) and drawn by Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World’s Finest). Both issues will feature additional “backup adventures” showcasing other Marvel and DC characters.

This project marks the first major Marvel-DC crossover in over 20 years, not counting Fortnite’s Omniverse. The companies have a history of joint ventures, starting with 1976’s Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.

“These crossovers happen roughly once per generation of readers. I’ll let you ponder why,” says Jim Lee, DC’s President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher, in an interview with EW. “Timing is key—you don’t want to overdo it. These moments need to feel rare and extraordinary. It’s a complex process with extensive coordination, collaboration, and approvals. From a business perspective, you’re splitting revenue, but the creative payoff has to match the buzz.”

Why Batman and Deadpool? Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley explains the pairing as a natural fit for fun. “It’s a lively mix, plain and simple,” Buckley tells EW. “Deadpool and Batman together promise humor, chaos, and a touch of gritty action. Our goal is to deliver something exciting, spotlight comics, and draw in new or returning readers.”
