As the buzz around Marvel Rivals continues to grow, the community is abuzz with speculation about potential new features, particularly the introduction of a PvE mode. Recent rumors about a PvE boss fight sparked excitement, but NetEase has since clarified that, for now, there are no concrete plans for a PvE mode in the game. However, hope isn't lost, as the development team is open to future possibilities.
At the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the future of the game. When asked directly about a PvE mode, Wu stated, "For now we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we found that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience." This response indicates that while a PvE mode isn't currently in development, the team is actively exploring new ideas that could potentially include such a feature.
Following Wu's comments, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in to gauge interest in a PvE mode. When I expressed my desire for such a feature, Wu elaborated, "Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."
Wu's remarks suggest that NetEase might be considering a more casual, "lighter" PvE mode, possibly in the form of a one-off event or similar feature. While the company remains tight-lipped about specifics, it's clear they are open to innovation and are keeping the community's interests in mind.
Marvel Rivals continues to evolve with regular updates, with new characters like the Human Torch and The Thing set to join the roster on February 21. For more insights, we also discussed the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release and addressed concerns about fake hero "leaks" in the game's code with Wu and Koo.
