Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Account Bans to Mod the Game Even After Season 1 Clampdown

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 19,2025

Despite a Season 1 crackdown, Marvel Rivals players continue to risk account bans by using mods. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized skins with mods, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta and Mantis into a goth. One mod even changes Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from Chainsaw Man.

NetEase, the developer, implemented asset hash checking to restrict mods, reiterating that their terms of service prohibit mods, cheats, and unauthorized third-party software. While NetEase warned of potential bans, a workaround is now circulating online, enabling continued modding, albeit with added complexity.

Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users about the risk of bans, noting that while permanent bans haven't been observed, the possibility remains. New mods, such as one transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, are already appearing, with some achieving thousands of downloads.

A tweet from @RivalsLeaks highlights the continued use of mods despite the risk. The lack of reported bans so far doesn't guarantee future safety.

NetEase's motivation for banning mods likely stems from potential revenue loss from in-game skin purchases, intellectual property concerns, and the impact mods could have on game balance and performance. Prafit even suggests their workaround requires a high-spec PC.

For those interested in official game content, the Season 1 patch notes, pick and win rates, and the latest codes for free skins are available. A community tier list also allows players to vote on the strongest characters.
