Marvel Seeks Reunion of The Defenders

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 19,2025

The highly anticipated next season of *Daredevil* is quickly approaching, and behind the scenes, Marvel Studios is already laying the groundwork for what could come next—including the intriguing possibility of a *Defenders* reunion.

In a recent feature by *Entertainment Weekly*, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming and TV at Marvel Studios, revealed that there's active interest in reuniting the iconic street-level heroes—Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist—collectively known as *The Defenders*. Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, Winderbaum expressed enthusiasm about revisiting this darker corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“It’s certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum shared. He went on to note the practical limitations of television production compared to comics, stating, “Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television.”

He added, “But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”

PlayThe upcoming series *Daredevil: Born Again* is set to continue Matt Murdock’s story directly from where Netflix’s *Daredevil* left off. While the original run aired on Netflix, which also hosted its own mini-Marvel universe through shows like *Jessica Jones*, *Luke Cage*, and *Iron Fist*, Winderbaum’s comments hint that *Born Again* might serve as a bridge to reintroduce those characters under the Disney+ umbrella.

With Jon Bernthal reprising his role as *The Punisher* in *Daredevil: Born Again*, another former Netflix hero is now officially part of the MCU fold. This sets an encouraging precedent for potential returns of other fan-favorite characters from the defunct Netflix lineup.

For now, fans will have to wait until *Daredevil: Born Again* premieres on March 4 to see how the story unfolds—and whether it opens the door for a larger *Defenders*-level crossover in the future.
