Marvel Snap in the US is blocked due to Tik-Tok restrictions

Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, was unexpectedly removed from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This ban, impacting other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8, left many players frustrated, particularly due to the lack of prior warning. While players are reporting authorization problems, the game remains accessible on Steam for PC users.

Second Dinner has publicly stated their surprise and commitment to restoring the game's availability, assuring players via Platform X that "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress." The abrupt removal is especially concerning given that players continued making in-app purchases unaware of the impending ban.

Interestingly, the impact wasn't uniform across all ByteDance applications. While Marvel Snap was affected, other titles such as Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.

Prior to the ban, we discussed the recent addition of the Moonstone card to Marvel Snap. This powerful Ongoing card (4/6) copies the Ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in its lane. Given the existing number of low-cost Ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, Moonstone's ability to quickly accumulate power through these copied effects represents a significant addition to the meta. Unlike many inexpensive Ongoing cards that primarily focus on power generation, Moonstone gains this power passively, making her a highly effective addition to many decks.
