In the world of *Phasmophobia*, where every whisper and creak can lead you to the truth, the Parabolic Microphone stands out as a vital piece of equipment for ghost hunters. If you're new to this tool or looking to enhance your ghost-hunting arsenal, here’s a comprehensive guide on unlocking and effectively using the Parabolic Microphone in your spectral investigations.
The Parabolic Microphone is classified as Optional Equipment in *Phasmophobia*, which means it won't be part of your default kit. To get your hands on this essential tool, you'll need to hit a specific level threshold and make a purchase at the in-game Shop.
Like other equipment in the game, the Parabolic Microphone comes in three distinct tiers, each offering improved quality and reliability. To unlock the first tier, you need to reach Level 7 and then head to the shop to add it to your equipment loadout, as shown in the images above.
Moving up, the second tier becomes available at Level 31 and will set you back $3,000 for the upgrade. The third and final tier unlocks at Level 72, costing $5,000. Once you've unlocked these tiers, you're free to choose any version of the Parabolic Microphone for your loadout, with the flexibility to include up to two in your setup, regardless of your team size.
Keep in mind that if you decide to Prestige your character, resetting back to Level 1, you'll need to unlock each tier of the Parabolic Microphone all over again, just like with all other equipment.

To deploy the Parabolic Microphone during your ghost-hunting contracts, you'll first need to add it to your loadout through the Shop portal. This ensures it's ready and waiting in the truck when you arrive at the haunted location. Note that if you're tackling Challenge Mode, the preset loadout might not include the Parabolic Microphone.
Once on site, head to the equipment wall in the truck to grab the Parabolic Microphone, just like any other item. Activate it using the appropriate button, and if you're equipped with the tier 3 version, you'll benefit from a radar screen that helps pinpoint the direction of sounds, as illustrated above.
The Parabolic Microphone is especially useful on medium to large maps in *Phasmophobia*. It helps you zero in on the ghost's location by picking up sounds such as objects being thrown, doors moving, or the ghost's voice itself. This tool not only aids in locating the ghost but can also assist in completing Optional Objectives that require capturing the ghost's voice.
Additionally, certain ghosts like the Deogen or Banshee produce unique sounds that can only be detected by the Parabolic Microphone. Identifying these sounds can be crucial in determining the type of ghost you're dealing with.
That wraps up your guide on unlocking and using the Parabolic Microphone in *Phasmophobia*. For the latest updates, guides, and more on the game, including how to unlock all achievements and trophies, make sure to check out The Escapist.
*Phasmophobia is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
