"Minecraft Movie Surpasses Super Mario Bros. with Record-Breaking Domestic Box Office Debut"

The Minecraft Movie has soared to new heights at the box office, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to claim the title of the biggest domestic debut for a video game adaptation. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, who also featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the film raked in an impressive $157 million in North America. This exceeds the $146 million that The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned during its opening weekend in April 2023, though it still holds the record as the highest-grossing video game adaptation to date.

Globally, A Minecraft Movie added another $144 million from international markets, culminating in a staggering $301 million worldwide over its opening weekend. With a production budget of $150 million, excluding marketing expenses, the film is already showing signs of being a profitable venture for Warner Bros.

Based on Mojang's Minecraft, which is the best-selling video game of all time, the movie is tied to the Microsoft-owned sandbox game that continues to captivate a global audience. To leverage the film's release, the game has introduced movie tie-in DLC.

IGN's review of A Minecraft Movie awarded it a 6/10, commending director Jared Hess for infusing the film with a unique and humorous touch, particularly in the first half of the kid-friendly adventure.

For those who have seen the film, IGN offers an in-depth look at A Minecraft Movie's Ending and Post-Credits Scene, explained by director Jared Hess and Minecraft's Torfi Frans Ólafsson.

On the other hand, Disney's live-action Snow White is facing potential disaster at the box office, with global earnings reaching only $168.4 million ($77.5 million domestic and $90.9 million international). Given its hefty $250 million production budget, a miraculous turnaround akin to Mufasa: The Lion King seems unlikely.
