MultiVersus Players Praise Major Season 5 Gameplay Changes Ahead of Server Shutdown — and Now #SaveMultiVersus Is Trending Online

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 26,2025

MultiVersus' impending shutdown in May, following the conclusion of Season 5, hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of its player base. A recent update dramatically increased combat speed, a change long-requested by the community, resulting in a significantly improved gameplay experience and a burgeoning #SaveMultiVersus social media campaign.

The game's fifth and final season launched on February 4th, introducing Aquaman and Lola Bunny as its last playable characters. While initially anticipated as a somber farewell, the update's sweeping combat changes—a faster pace achieved by reducing hit pause—have revitalized the game. This fundamental shift addresses years of player feedback regarding the game's previously criticized "floaty" gameplay, even surpassing the speed seen in last year's relaunch.

A Season 5 Combat Changes Preview video showcased these improvements, highlighting faster combos and movement. Specific character adjustments further enhanced this speed; Morty, LeBron, Iron Giant, Bugs Bunny, Black Adam, and others now benefit from faster fall speeds during certain aerial attacks. Garnet's adjustments balance her already high speed by altering her ringout potential.

The positive reception is bittersweet. MultiVersus, transformed by the update into a vastly improved game, is slated for complete shutdown on May 30th, ending seasonal content and online play. This leaves players feeling both elated by the enhanced gameplay and devastated by the impending closure.

Online commentary reflects this duality. One player called it "the most interesting bad game in existence," highlighting its troubled beta, relaunch, and sudden improvement. Professional player Mew2King questioned the timing of the speed increase. Reddit users expressed similar sentiments, praising the update for fixing numerous issues and lamenting the lost potential. One user compared the situation to Apex Legends, suggesting that a strong initial foundation would have ensured greater longevity.

Despite fan hopes for a reversal, Player First and Warner Bros. remain committed to the shutdown. Real-money transactions have been disabled, and the Season 5 premium battle pass is now free. MultiVersus' director, Tony Huynh, shared closing thoughts, addressing player concerns.

The game's final sunset is scheduled for May 30th at 9 am PT. While the shutdown proceeds, the community finds solace in shared memes, celebrating the game's final, unexpectedly excellent iteration. The situation presents a poignant example of a game reaching its peak just as it's being discontinued.
