MultiVersus to Shut Down After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the unfortunate news that MultiVersus will be shutting down after its upcoming fifth season. This means the action-packed platform fighter will be unavailable for online play after May 30th, 2025.

Season 5: The Final Showdown

The official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account revealed on January 31st, 2025, that Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last. This final season will include two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman from DC and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. Both characters will be earnable through gameplay. After Season 5 concludes on May 30th, 2025, the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been given.

Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy

While online play will cease, MultiVersus will offer a local gameplay mode, allowing players to enjoy the game offline. This mode supports solo play against AI or with up to three friends. To access this offline mode, players must download the latest version of the game between February 4th, 9 AM PST, and May 30th, 9 AM PDT. Upon logging in, a local save file will be created, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions have already been discontinued as of January 31st, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Brief History and a Farewell

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates, including new characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode, the game still faced challenges, including technical issues and reported player decline.

Despite the game's closure, MultiVersus will leave behind a legacy of fun and competitive gameplay. With 35 playable characters from various franchises, the game will officially shut down on May 30th, 2025, at 9 AM PDT. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus is currently available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30th, 2025.
