Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet appears to offer players a significantly more expansive and free experience compared to the studio's earlier works. Inspired by the groundbreaking open-world mechanics of Elden Ring, the developers are set to introduce a similar level of freedom in exploration. Journalist Ben Hanson shares that the game is set on a vast, singular planet where players will unravel the secrets of a long-lost civilization and delve into the intricacies of a new religion, which is poised to be a central narrative theme. While it's uncertain how closely the game will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear gameplay that characterized their previous titles.

In a first for the studio, The Heretic Prophet will feature a solo protagonist, with players navigating the game without the aid of companions or allies. Neil Druckmann, a key figure in the project, emphasizes the intent to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe. The game will also explore deep themes of faith and religion. Set in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years, the story follows bounty hunter Jordan Moon as she arrives on the planet to fulfill her contract.

Druckmann further notes that the game's development has been influenced by iconic titles such as Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This influence suggests a shift away from traditional guidance mechanisms, encouraging players to piece together the narrative themselves from scattered story fragments.

Announced at TGA 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet does not yet have a confirmed release date, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more details on this ambitious new venture.
