Neon Spellstorm is an electrifying new action roguelite from TopCog, now open for pre-registration. Described as a bullet heaven with a magical twist, the game dives deep into the wizarding theme that TopCog has become known for. Following the success of titles like the Tap Wizard series and WizUp, Neon Spellstorm brings a fresh yet familiar experience to fans of magic-fueled chaos.
In Neon Spellstorm, you sprint forward across a glowing neon path that disintegrates behind you, forcing constant momentum. As a wizard in a low-tech cyberpunk world rendered in vibrant pixel art and glitchy visual effects, your main job is to blast spells in all directions while surviving relentless enemy waves.
The game features 28 unique spells, each with wild effects like Echo, Havoc, Behemoth, and Aftershock. You can chain these abilities together for devastating combos and strategic depth. Alongside this, 74 different trinkets allow you to craft unpredictable and powerful builds—some even leaning into the absurdly fun “unhinged” category.
Each run throws a new combination of spells and trinkets your way, ensuring no two playthroughs feel the same. While dashing through the ever-changing terrain, you’ll also collect Orbs, Stars, Gems, and Neon. These resources can be spent at the Neon Core to unlock permanent upgrades and expand your arsenal between runs.
Visually, Neon Spellstorm stands out with its hybrid 2.5D mixed media approach—combining traditional 2D sprites with stylized low-poly 3D models. The result is a distinctive aesthetic that blends retro charm with modern flair. Check it out for yourself in the official trailer below:
Before each run, you can customize your wizard from a roster of six distinct characters. Choose your preferred spells, fates, archetypes, and sigils to shape your playstyle. Once the run begins, the choice is yours how to tackle the map—whether you rush ahead or take a more tactical approach.
Pre-registration for Neon Spellstorm is currently live on Android via the Google Play Store. Upon release, players will have access to a free demo, with a one-time in-app purchase required to unlock the full game. The anticipated mobile launch date is set for [ttpp]August 11th, 2025[/ttpp].
The development team has openly cited inspiration from critically acclaimed titles such as Hades, Bastion, Risk of Rain 2, and Slay the Spire. With those influences blended with TopCog’s own design language from Tap Wizard 2, Neon Spellstorm aims to deliver a polished, engaging, and highly replayable experience. If the early looks are any indication, this could be one of the most exciting indie action titles of the year.
