The director of The Fall Guy is reportedly in negotiations to helm Netflix's Gears of War movie. David Leitch, known for his work on Atomic Blonde (2017), Deadpool 2 (2018), Hobbs & Shaw (2019), and Bullet Train (2022), is set to bring his action-packed style to the adaptation of Microsoft's popular third-person shooter game. Leitch will be producing the film alongside Kelly McCormick and Gears developer The Coalition, with Jon Spaihts, the writer behind Dune, penning the script.

It has been over two years since Netflix secured the rights to Gears of War, and it appears that progress is finally underway. Alongside the movie, an adult animation series is in development, set to expand the franchise's universe further. If these projects succeed, fans can expect even more Gears content in the future.

The casting of Marcus Fenix, the series' protagonist, remains a hot topic. Dave Bautista, a former wrestler turned actor, has expressed a strong desire to take on the role and has received endorsement from Gears co-creator Cliff Bleszinski.

The video game adaptation landscape is thriving, with hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, A Minecraft Movie, and the Sonic films setting new benchmarks. Other notable adaptations include the Uncharted movie, Mortal Kombat, and various Resident Evil projects.

"We’re learning and growing through this process, which is giving us more confidence that we should do more," Spencer stated. He acknowledged that while some projects might not meet expectations, the overall experience is encouraging Microsoft to continue expanding its portfolio of adaptations.

In the gaming world, The Coalition is currently developing Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the series, though no release date has been announced yet.
