Nintendo warns against removing Switch 2 screen protector

As the Switch 2's launch approaches this week, Nintendo has issued an important advisory about the console's protective screen film. The company has released a downloadable PDF containing health and safety guidelines for the new system (via NintendoSoup).

A key section on "Careful Usage" states: "The screen features a protective film layer designed to prevent glass fragmentation if damaged. Do not remove this film."

This means the adhesive layer serves as a safety feature to contain potential glass shards if the screen breaks. Removing it could compromise this protection.

When unboxing your Switch 2 in the coming days, be mindful not to peel off this vital protective layer accidentally.

Nintendo's guidelines also recommend avoiding use in "dusty or smoky environments" - suggesting you might want to skip bringing it to nightclubs or antique bookstores.

"Remember to charge the built-in batteries at least semi-annually," Nintendo advises. "Extended periods without use may permanently disable battery charging capability." Though with Mario Kart World launching alongside, you'll likely keep it powered regularly.

Other safety reminders include common sense precautions: "Avoid exposing devices to open flames, microwaves, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures."

After years of anticipation and leaks, Nintendo will officially launch the Switch 2 this Thursday, June 5, 2025. Some customers already received early deliveries last month, with unboxing videos briefly surfacing online before Nintendo took them down.
