Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak

Summary

  • Nintendo issued an uncommon statement regarding the Genki Switch 2 leak from CES 2025, clarifying that the images are unofficial.
  • This statement highlights Nintendo's non-participation in CES 2025, thus deeming any Switch 2 imagery from the event as non-official.

Nintendo has addressed the recent wave of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025, definitively stating that the circulating images are not official. While seemingly obvious, this marks a rare public comment from Nintendo on leaked product information.

Since late 2024, the Switch 2 has been subject to numerous leaks, possibly due to the console's reported entry into mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki recently displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread online dissemination of accompanying images.

In response to a Sankei Shimbun inquiry, Nintendo confirmed the unofficial nature of Genki's replica images and videos. A representative emphasized Nintendo's absence from CES 2025, rendering any Switch 2 visuals originating from the event as non-official promotional material.

Official or Not, Genki's Nintendo Switch 2 Replica Could Be Accurate

While Nintendo didn't comment on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its consistency with prior leaks and rumors suggests potential validity. The replica, slightly larger than the original Switch, notably features an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. This, along with the reported magnetic Joy-Con attachment and mouse functionality (already suggested by other sources), are key differences.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unaware of the "C" button's purpose, corroborated the magnetic Joy-Con attachment and mouse functionality claims.

Nintendo previously announced a Switch successor reveal during fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025), leaving approximately 80 days for fulfillment. A retail launch is anticipated no earlier than the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
