Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen, adding a new dimension to user interaction with the console. Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, enthusiasts have been buzzing with excitement about the potential uses of the new Joy-Con's mouse control feature. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can indeed function in "mouse mode." This mode allows players to slide the controllers across a surface and use the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions, mimicking a standard mouse. Furthermore, it's possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode simultaneously—one in each hand—or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode, offering versatile control options.
New details have emerged, showcasing the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls in action on the Nintendo Switch 2's Home menu. As demonstrated on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, the functionality of the mouse controls extends to navigating the console's Home screen seamlessly.

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." They further explained that to activate the cursor, you need to set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or any flat surface and move it accordingly. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo added, emphasizing that the mouse controls can be used on the Home menu and within compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, simply position the Joy-Con 2 horizontally again.
Although it's not yet clear how many games will support these mouse controls, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology working with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to launch on June 5. Pre-orders for the Switch 2 commenced on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99, and as expected, they sold out rapidly.
