Nintendo Switch 2's Size Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 18,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 announcement trailer reveals a larger console than its predecessor. The trailer shows a significant size increase, suggesting a departure from smaller handhelds and an embrace of larger portable devices like the Steam Deck.

While Nintendo hasn't released official dimensions, estimations can be made based on the trailer and a CES 2025 Genki mock-up, which closely resembles the final design.

Estimated Switch 2 Screen Size:

The Switch 2 is estimated to have an 8-inch screen (diagonal measurement, excluding bezels), aligning with earlier rumors. This translates to approximately 177mm wide and 99mm tall. This represents a nearly 30% diagonal increase and a 66% larger area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch screen. Compared to the Switch Lite (5.5-inch) the increase is 45% diagonally and 111% in area; compared to the Switch OLED (7-inch), it's 14% diagonally and 30% in area. While larger than the original Switch and Switch OLED, the Switch 2's screen is still smaller than the Steam Deck's 7-inch and 7.4-inch (OLED) displays. However, it surpasses even the largest Steam Deck screen by 8% diagonally and 11% in area.

Estimated Switch 2 Overall Console Size:

Measurements from the Genki mock-up suggest the Switch 2 is approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall. This is roughly 25% larger than the original Switch (239mm x 102mm), 61% larger than the Switch Lite (208mm x 91mm), and 12% smaller than the Steam Deck (298mm x 117mm). Depth is estimated to be similar to the original Switch.

Estimated Switch 2 Joy-Con Size:

The Joy-Cons are estimated to be 32mm wide and 115mm tall – the same width as the originals, but 13mm taller (approximately 13% larger).

Estimated Switch 2 Screen Unit Size:

Subtracting the Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size, the screen unit is estimated at 200mm long and 115mm tall (approximately 31% larger than the original). This allows for approximately 11mm bezels on the sides and 8mm bezels on the top and bottom.

These measurements are estimations and may differ from official figures. However, based on the Genki mock-up, the Switch 2 is expected to be approximately 25% larger than the original.
