During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo revealed that nearly the entire Nintendo Switch game catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, some titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades. Notable games receiving these special editions include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game comes with its own set of improvements. The first game showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV," enhancing gameplay with mouse controls, audio recognition, more dynamic rumble feedback, and interactive elements using a new camera accessory.

Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were highlighted for their enhanced resolution, improved framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new feature in the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance to help locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom using QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, along with upgraded graphics and framerates.

Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see enhancements. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs will be offered for sale for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing players who already own the original Switch versions to upgrade to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo announced that several third-party titles will also receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will introduce Switch 2-exclusive game modes.

The buzz around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week when a webpage briefly mentioned them in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system. The footnote clarified that these enhanced editions could not be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
