Nvidia RTX 5060 Unveiled: Why You Should Wait Before Purchasing

Author:Kristen Update:Jul 29,2025

Nvidia introduced the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti in April 2025, with the budget-friendly GPU now hitting shelves after a Computex reveal.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 starts at $299, offering 3,840 CUDA cores across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, ideal for 1080p gaming. Nvidia touts impressive performance, claiming the RTX 5060 can achieve 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p with max settings, though this relies on 4x Multi-Frame Generation.

This generation’s highlight, as Nvidia emphasizes, is Multi-Frame Generation, and despite being the most affordable option, the RTX 5060 fully supports this and the complete DLSS 4 technology suite. However, with only 30 SMs, DLSS performance has its limits.

Note that $299 is the base price. While some models will hit this price point, many RTX 5060 variants will cost more, often including extras like factory-overclocked performance and RGB lighting.

Reviews Are Coming... Later

Although the RTX 5060 is relatively affordable at $299 MSRP, it’s wise to hold off on buying until performance data is available. Nvidia’s bold claims rely heavily on Multi-Frame Generation, and real-world results won’t be clear until testing is complete.

Unlike previous launches like the RTX 5090, Nvidia isn’t providing early drivers to reviewers, meaning performance reviews for the RTX 5060 won’t surface for at least a week after launch. While it’s likely a solid 1080p card, the Blackwell lineup has shown modest generational improvements.

The RTX 5060 may offer similar performance gains as the RTX 5070 did over its predecessor, especially in traditional gaming without frame generation. Nvidia suggests the 5060 could double performance with frame generation enabled, but only a 20% boost in non-ray-traced, non-frame-generated games—likely an optimistic estimate.

As with any costly tech purchase, waiting for reviews ensures you get value for your money. Reviews are on the way, but they may take a few days to arrive.
