Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi

Capcom has treated fans to a fresh look at its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The new gameplay trailer, showcased at the PlayStation State of Play event, reveals the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.

The trailer highlights exhilarating sword combat and formidable foes, promising a visually stunning and action-packed experience. Musashi's portrayal blends impressive swordsmanship with a charismatic, even comedic, personality.

Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the legendary Toshiro Mifune, renowned for his samurai roles in classic cinema.

The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
