Overwatch 2: Blizzard's Free Skin Giveaway After Paid Launch

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 12,2025

Blizzard is once again at the heart of an Overwatch 2 controversy. A new Lucio skin, the Cyber DJ, initially appeared in the in-game store for $19.99. However, just a day later, Blizzard announced it would be available for free to Twitch viewers watching a dedicated Overwatch 2 event broadcast for one hour on February 12th.

This revelation angered many players who had already purchased the Cyber DJ skin. This isn't the first time Blizzard has sold cosmetic items only to later offer them for free through promotions, leading to widespread calls for refunds. While the Cyber DJ skin has been removed from the store, Blizzard hasn't yet addressed the refund requests.

This situation comes at a challenging time for Overwatch 2, as Marvel Rivals is significantly outperforming it. In response, Blizzard has announced a special Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12th, promising revolutionary gameplay changes. The event will unveil new maps, heroes, and other content, and will feature prominent streamers given a preview at Blizzard headquarters.
