"Overwatch Mobile: Nexon and Blizzard Sign New Deal"

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 25,2025

For years, the idea of *Overwatch Mobile* has felt like a distant dream—especially after reports surfaced that internal development had long been shelved. However, fresh news suggests that Blizzard and Nexon have entered into a strategic partnership, reigniting hopes for a mobile version of the popular FPS title.

While the core focus of the deal centers on publishing and development rights for a new entry in the legendary *StarCraft* real-time strategy series, it’s the potential inclusion of an *Overwatch*-branded mobile project that’s catching the most attention. Reports indicate that the agreement may also cover a possible MOBA-style spinoff or sequel to *Overwatch*, hinting that Blizzard hasn’t completely abandoned its mobile ambitions.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time *Overwatch* has been linked to the MOBA genre. Fans might recall how *Heroes of the Storm*, Blizzard’s now-dormant multiplayer online battle arena game, once played host to several *Overwatch* characters. It’s possible that this new mobile venture could be a continuation of that concept, rebranded under the *Overwatch* umbrella. Alternatively, it could pave the way for an all-new competitive experience inspired by the tactical depth of MOBAs.

That said, don’t expect this to be *Overwatch 3*. Given the franchise's history as a console and PC-focused experience, a full-scale sequel is unlikely. Instead, this appears to be more of a strategic move to expand the brand into emerging markets through mobile platforms, while potentially revitalizing interest in the broader *Overwatch* universe.

With rising competition such as *Marvel Rivals* entering the fray, it makes sense for Blizzard to explore new formats and platforms to keep the momentum going. Whether this results in a direct sequel, a MOBA spinoff, or even a mobile reboot of *Heroes of the Storm*, one thing is clear: the future of *Overwatch* may be more flexible than we ever imagined.
