Fields of Mistria, lauded for its well-developed romance options and engaging storylines, leaves players wondering: can you go on actual dates? The short answer is nuanced. While traditional dating isn't currently implemented, the existing romance system is robust and rewarding, justifying the game's price tag.

The November 2024 update significantly enhanced the romance mechanics, increasing the maximum relationship level from four hearts to six and adding new heart events for each romanceable NPC. These events, featuring playable cutscenes at two, four, and six hearts, mark relationship milestones. Further updates are planned to add eight- and ten-heart events, but specifics remain unannounced beyond the March 2025 update (which won't include a higher heart cap or new events).

While the lack of a dedicated "date" mechanic might initially disappoint, the existing system shines. The dialogue is rich and realistically flirty, and the heart events, though potentially interpreted as platonic early on, leave room for romantic interpretation, creating a satisfyingly gradual progression.

However, the Shooting Star Festival, introduced in a recent update, offers a date-like experience. Reaching four hearts with a romanceable NPC unlocks a festival date. While watching the stars with Caldarus is currently available, a date at the Summit location, as seen with other characters, is pending. The March 2025 update may alter this, potentially unlocking the dragon's romance questline.

In conclusion, while official dates aren't yet a feature, Fields of Mistria's compelling romance system provides ample satisfaction. The game's ongoing development promises further enhancements to the romance mechanics in the future.
