Sony has announced an exciting new update for PlayStation Portal users engaged in its Cloud Streaming Beta, set to enhance the user experience and functionality of the remote play system's cloud capabilities. This update, which will be available later today, introduces several features designed to make cloud streaming on the PS Portal even more enjoyable.
One of the key additions is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or by which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus. This sorting feature will help users navigate through their available games more efficiently, making it easier to find and select their next gaming adventure.
Another significant update is the introduction of gameplay capture during Cloud Streaming sessions. Users will now have access to the familiar create menu options, allowing them to capture screenshots or record video clips directly from their cloud streaming experience. According to the PlayStation blog, video clips can be recorded at up to 1920x1080 resolution and can last up to three minutes, providing ample opportunity to capture and share memorable moments.
In addition to these features, gameplay will now pause when users open the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode via the power button, or if a system error message appears. However, the pause in rest mode is limited to 15 seconds; if the Portal stays in rest mode longer, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. It's worth noting that this pause feature will not be available during online multiplayer sessions.
Further enhancements include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for user inactivity, and tools for collecting user feedback. Sony has emphasized its commitment to continuously improving the Cloud Streaming Beta based on this feedback.
Currently, the Cloud Streaming Beta is exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, offering them the ability to play select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog via cloud streaming on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into a more standalone cloud streaming device, and it appears Sony is dedicated to further refining and expanding this functionality over time.
As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming ecosystem, it will be fascinating to see how Sony's Cloud Streaming Beta evolves in tandem with the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture numerous screenshots and video clips during streaming sessions adds a delightful layer of engagement for users, enhancing their overall gaming experience.
