Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta, Devs Drop New Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta.

Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen) has finally released a new trailer after a prolonged silence. Further details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

The Name Change Mystery

The developers haven't yet commented on the name change. Interestingly, "Ananta" means infinite in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (infinite). The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, though relief prevails that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some. However, many find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A Curious Turn of Events

Surprisingly, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of video views. Only their Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This fresh start has puzzled many gamers, as a simple renaming of existing accounts would have seemed a more logical approach.

Ananta casts players as an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator confronting supernatural chaos. Key characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
