Get ready for the return of an iconic action hero, as John Rambo is set to make a comeback in an exciting prequel project. Directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on Sisu and Big Game, this new film, tentatively titled "John Rambo," is currently being launched by Millennium Media at the Cannes market. This event, which takes place during the renowned Cannes Film Festival, is a prime opportunity for filmmakers to showcase upcoming projects and secure funding or distribution deals. Millennium Media, the powerhouse behind the Expendables and Has Fallen series, also produced the 2008 film Rambo and the 2019 release Rambo: Last Blood.

While details about the plot of "John Rambo" are scarce, we know it will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic, First Blood. As of now, no casting decisions have been finalized, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not involved at this stage.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the talented duo behind The Mauritanian and Black Adam. Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October, adding to the anticipation surrounding this project.

Despite the surprise of a Rambo prequel, Helander's recent success with the action-packed 2023 WWII film Sisu demonstrates his capability to handle high-octane storytelling. Sisu transformed the concept of John Wick into that of an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War, showcasing Helander's knack for intense and thrilling narratives.
