The surprise appearance of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian stands as one of the most thrilling moments in Star Wars history. Rosario Dawson, who joined the Star Wars universe in The Book of Boba Fett, shared an amusing anecdote at Star Wars Celebration. She revealed that she was completely in the dark about Hamill's cameo until he unexpectedly appeared on set.

To maintain the secrecy of Luke Skywalker's cameo, showrunners Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau cleverly used Jedi Master Plo Koon as a decoy in the scripts. Dawson, like many fans, was baffled by Plo Koon's supposed return, especially since his fate was sealed in Revenge of the Sith. She humorously recounted her confusion, saying, "I was like... I don't know... but people disappear and then they come back, so maybe it's possible?"

The surprise was complete when Hamill showed up, leading to a light-hearted moment where he quipped about the absurdity of Plo Koon's involvement. Dawson shared, "And then Mark Hamill was on set and surprised me and it was a whole thing. He even said, 'Plo Koon? That wouldn't even make sense!' and I'm like, 'I know it didn't make sense, but I still had to think it made sense because I got the script and everything!' "

Filoni and Favreau expressed their regret for not informing Dawson earlier, with Filoni admitting, "I think we assumed you'd gotten told the right information," and Favreau adding, "That was bad on us!" They emphasized the importance of keeping two major secrets: Grogu's reveal at the end of the first episode and Luke Skywalker's appearance at the end of season two. Favreau noted, "We were biting our nails all the way the whole way through, and we somehow miraculously made it cleanly to both of those because everything else leaked. But, unfortunately, we didn't fill in our partner here."

Dawson took the oversight in stride, jokingly saying, "I love it, they know I can't be trusted."
