You can bring up to five characters into battle, and the game offers a "Quick Dispatch" feature that automatically arranges your squad based on their strength. Your Stellaris come equipped with both active and passive abilities that they deploy automatically during combat. Each skill has a cooldown period, measured in turns, before it can be used again.
