Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It

Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast in a brand-new teaser trailer, prompting even the Sonic Movie account to offer some design advice. In a humorous TikTok video, the account showcased Sonic's own transformation from his initially criticized live-action design to his much-improved redesign, offering a playful comparison to Shrek's new look.

IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 Sonic the Hedgehog movie revealed a design that sparked considerable debate among fans. The character's teeth, physique, small eyes, and human-like fingers drew significant criticism. Director Jeff Fowler subsequently redesigned the character, resulting in a much more positive reception.

While the reaction to Shrek's new look isn't as intensely negative as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's humorous TikTok response has entertained fans. Comments included expressions of surprise and amusement at the unexpected crossover advice.

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5 remained relatively quiet until 2023, when Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its active development and hinted at a potential Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving Minions 3 to its original slot.
