Konami's Silent Hill f Gets 18+ Rating in Japan

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 08,2026

Silent Hill f marks a series first by receiving Japan's strictest 18+ (CERO:Z) age rating, as confirmed in last night's Japanese reveal trailer. The game also carries mature ratings internationally - Mature in the U.S. and PEGI 18 in Europe.

While ratings may evolve during active development, Automaton notes this represents a significant shift - previous Japan-developed Silent Hill titles (including Silent Hill 2, 3 and The Room) all received the milder CERO:C (15+) rating. Overseas-developed entries typically ranged between CERO:C and CERO:D (17+).

This distinction extends even to Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake, which maintains Japan's CERO:C rating despite its mature (17+) classification in Western markets.

The latest Silent Hill Transmission presentation focused exclusively on Silent Hill f - the franchise's first new mainline entry in 13 years. First revealed in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan where protagonist Shimizu Hinako battles societal pressures. The narrative comes from Ryukishi07, acclaimed creator of the When They Cry series.

The chilling trailer depicts Hinako's psychological unraveling through graphic imagery - bloodied wounds, torn school uniform, and escalating distress. While primarily cinematic, glimpses of gameplay reveal unsettling monster designs and a haunting Otherworld environment where blood-red flowers replace the series' signature industrial decay.

Konami has yet to announce a release date for Silent Hill f. The presentation also provided no updates on No Code's in-development Silent Hill: Townfall project.
