Team Cherry Confirms Silksong Release Before Christmas, Independent of Xbox Handheld

Team Cherry, developers of Hollow Knight: Silksong, clarified the game’s brief mention during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where it appeared alongside the ROG Ally X handheld.

At the event, Xbox president Sarah Bond noted Silksong would be “available at launch and on Game Pass when Ally releases later this year,” prompting speculation it was tied to the Holiday 2025 hardware launch.

Team Cherry has since debunked this connection.

In messages on the game’s official Discord, seen by IGN, Team Cherry’s marketing manager Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin confirmed Silksong’s release is not linked to the ROG Ally X and is set for before the holidays.

“I confirmed BEFORE Holiday,” Griffin stated, clarifying: “we are not tied to a console release.”

When asked which holiday, Griffin specified: “Christmas yes.”

When might Silksong launch before Christmas? The game is slated to be playable at an Australian museum in Melbourne starting September 18, hinting at a possible early release.

Silksong fans anticipated a firm release date from the Xbox Games Showcase, especially after recent updates to the game’s Steam page suggested an imminent launch.

Instead, Xbox used its shadow drop for Final Fantasy 16, leaving Silksong’s release date unclear. Still, with Christmas six months away, anticipation remains high.

IGN has tested the ROG Ally X, a potential platform for Silksong upon its release.
