"Skyrim Grandma Tries Oblivion Remastered, Chat Assists"

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 10,2025

Beloved YouTube personality Shirley Curry, affectionately known as the *Skyrim Grandma*, has embarked on a new adventure with *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered*. With her 1.3 million subscribers eagerly watching, the 89-year-old gaming icon dives into Bethesda’s remastered classic, and the community is rallying behind her every step of the way.

In her first video titled “Oblivion Remastered #1 – Learning,” Curry starts her journey after completing the game's lengthy tutorial sequence. “Good morning grandkids. This is Oblivion Remastered,” she warmly greets her audience. “I am out of all that creepy jail and dungeon and sewers and all that mess you have to come through for so long before you ever get to come out of that into the world. This is the first thing that I see.”

Curry is still getting used to the controls, asking chat for help switching between first-person and third-person views. She spends much of her time exploring the environment, adjusting to movement mechanics, and navigating the sometimes-tricky interface. Like many players before her, lockpicking proves to be a particular challenge—but hey, isn’t that part of the *Oblivion* experience?

Her second video, “Oblivion Remastered #2 – Still Learning,” continues her early-game journey. As she navigates a goblin-infested cave crawling with giant rats, she jokes: “I guess you’re gonna have to hear an awful lot of complaining from me.”

Despite the learning curve, Curry is being supported by a wave of helpful comments from fans who are guiding her through the basics. One fan writes: “Wow, Grandma Shirley! Welcome to TES4!!!” Curry responded with a heart emoji, clearly touched by the warm reception.

Another detailed tip reads: “If you use a keyboard, you can switch from first-person to third-person by clicking the mouse wheel. On controller, it’s the same as in Skyrim—click the right joystick. Lockpicking is tough here, but once you reach level 10, just use auto-attempt. If you run out of picks, visit Nocturnal’s Shrine to get the Skeleton Key. There are also open-lock spells and the Tower Stone, which gives a daily lock-opening power. Activate it at night near the Waterfront area of the Imperial City.”

Another comment suggests: “Glad to see your starting to get the hang of it Shirley, if you click wait you can choose what time of day you'd like—but you can't do it near enemies.” Curry appreciates the advice, thanking the commenter on-screen.

Last year, Curry announced her retirement from gameplay content after nine years of streaming, citing a loss of enjoyment in the process. But clearly, the call of Tamriel was too strong to ignore for long.

Shirley Curry has become a beloved figure within the *Elder Scrolls* community. Her influence even reached Bethesda directly, and after a passionate fan campaign, the studio confirmed that she would receive her own NPC character in *The Elder Scrolls VI*—a fitting tribute to her legacy.

While *The Elder Scrolls VI* is still years away, Curry now has *Oblivion Remastered* to keep her—and us—entertained in the meantime. And judging by the outpouring of support, she won’t be walking that path alone.
