The critically acclaimed 2010 film *The Social Network*, which dramatized the founding of Facebook, is set to receive a long-awaited sequel. Academy Award-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will both write and direct the follow-up, according to reports from Deadline. This time around, the narrative is expected to center on some of Facebook's more recent and controversial developments.

Among the key focal points of the sequel is believed to be the events and internal findings highlighted in *The Wall Street Journal*'s investigative series "The Facebook Files." These reports revealed leaked internal documents suggesting that the platform was aware of the harmful societal effects its algorithms were generating—yet failed to take sufficient action.

Sorkin has previously voiced his belief that Facebook played a role in the January 6 Capitol riot, though insiders clarify that this film won’t be narrowly focused on that event. Instead, it aims to explore broader themes—including the impact of social media on young users and communities outside the United States.

Although Sorkin reportedly already has a clear vision for the story, the project remains in its early stages. No official casting announcements have been made yet. One burning question remains: will Jesse Eisenberg reprise his iconic role as Mark Zuckerberg? Sorkin has expressed interest in a sequel for years, and Eisenberg himself has shown enthusiasm for returning.

“Oh, yeah,” Eisenberg told IndieWire back in 2019 when asked about potentially reprising the role. “To play a meaningful part in something popular is very rare. This was a chance to portray a complex character—you know, the kind you’d usually see in a stage play or indie film—but on a grand scale. For me, that was an incredible opportunity.”
