On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to share that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was a fresh trailer offering a glimpse into the game's dynamic gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game within the Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to vie against each other across various levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the game as follows: "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the nefarious Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and perilous arenas!"

Given its free-to-play model, concerns about pay-to-win mechanics surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. Tase reassured fans by stating, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."

Shortly after the release date announcement, Sega disclosed that Sonic Rumble has now surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. Each milestone achieved during the pre-registration campaign unlocks special in-game rewards to help players kickstart their adventure:
