Sony Has Good News and Bad News on PlayStation 5 Themes

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 27,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes will be unavailable after January 31, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the future, offering a glimmer of hope to nostalgic PS5 owners.

In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the positive reception of the themes, stating they are working to bring back these designs in the coming months.

Despite this positive news, Sony also announced that no further themes are planned for development. This announcement has drawn considerable disappointment from fans who have long awaited theme customization options on the PS5, a feature present in previous PlayStation generations.

The temporary themes, released to commemorate PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024, offered a visual and auditory trip down memory lane. Each theme recreated the iconic user interface and boot-up sounds of its respective console generation. The PSOne theme featured the console itself on the home screen, while the PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes recreated their distinct menu designs and background patterns.
