The unexpected announcement of the development of Space Marine 3 sent ripples of excitement and concern throughout the Warhammer 40,000 community, particularly regarding the future support for Space Marine 2. Just six months after the release of Space Marine 2, publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive revealed the start of Space Marine 3's development, prompting fans to worry about the ongoing content for the existing game.

In response to these concerns, both companies issued a reassuring statement via a new blog post. They emphasized their commitment to continue supporting Space Marine 2, clarifying that no resources are being diverted from Space Marine 2 to the new project. "Space Marine 3 does not mean the end of Space Marine 2's development. Far from it. No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain," the statement assured fans.

The blog post also outlined the future of Space Marine 2, including the release of Patch 7 in mid-April and the exciting addition of a new class along with new PvE operations and melee weapons in the coming months. The companies hinted at undisclosed surprises that even dataminers have yet to uncover, adding an element of mystery and anticipation.

While Space Marine 3 is still in its early stages and years away from release, the announcement has been met with enthusiasm from the community. The developers expressed gratitude for the fans' support and excitement, which fuels their motivation for the new project.

The highlight of the upcoming content for Space Marine 2 is the introduction of a new class, speculated by fans to be either the Apothecary, akin to a medic, or the powerful Librarian, known for their warp-powered abilities. Additionally, the community is buzzing about the potential addition of a new melee weapon, with many hoping for the iconic axe featured in Secret Level's Warhammer 40,000 animated episode, which has already been modded into the game by enthusiastic fans.

Given the success of Space Marine 2, the decision to move forward with Space Marine 3 comes as no surprise. In interviews following the launch of Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits mentioned the potential for story DLC and teased ideas for Space Marine 3, hinting at new enemy factions and chapters that could be explored in the sequel.

The Warhammer 40,000 community eagerly anticipates the continued development and new content for Space Marine 2, while also looking forward to the distant but promising future of Space Marine 3.
