Space Marine 2 Devs' April Fool's Joke Sparks Fan Excitement for Game Feature

Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

April 1st has come and gone, marking another year of playful jests from the video game industry. Yet, the April Fool's Day gag from the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might linger in fans' memories a bit longer.

Just yesterday, Focus Entertainment, the publisher behind Space Marine 2, announced a new Chaplain class as a supposed DLC release for April 1. "In story mode, swap out Titus for The Chaplain and experience the game as a true Codex-compliant Ultramarine," they declared, likely with a chuckle behind their screens.

This faux DLC was said to introduce the Chaplain as a playable character in the story mode, complete with an 'Enhanced Dialogue System'. Every five minutes, the Chaplain would remind his comrades that "the Codex Astartes does not support this action," and threaten to report them to the Inquisition.

The Chaplain's special ability, dubbed 'Discipline', was a humorous nod to his strict adherence to the Codex Astartes. It supposedly allowed him to report any deviations from the Codex for a 5% discipline bonus, though at the cost of a 20% brotherhood penalty.

The humor of this April Fool's prank resonates with fans familiar with the Space Marine 2 campaign, where Chaplain Quintus watches protagonist Titus with a hawk-like suspicion for any hint of heresy. Despite Titus's loyalty to the Imperium, the Ultramarines, and the Emperor, Quintus remains ever vigilant, much like an overzealous school prefect eager to report any misbehavior.

The Chaplain has become a meme within the Space Marine community, and this April Fool's Day joke cleverly plays into that. Interestingly, some fans expressed genuine interest in seeing the Chaplain added to the game, not with the prank's skill set, but as a dedicated warrior-priest who venerates the Emperor.

"This would actually go hard if this was real," commented ResidentDrama9739 on the Space Marine subreddit, sparking enthusiastic discussions about the Chaplain's potential role in the game.

While Space Marine 2 is set to introduce a new class soon, the specifics remain undisclosed. Speculation abounds, with many hoping for an Apothecary or a Librarian, the latter of which would bring warp-powered space magic into play. However, the Chaplain's appearance in the April Fool's gag might suggest he's less likely to be the new class.

Despite the unexpected announcement of Space Marine 3's development, Space Marine 2's roadmap for the first year remains intact. Patch 7 is slated for mid-April, and fans can look forward to the new class, additional PvE operations, and new melee weapons in the coming months.
