Spider-Man 2 PC Release Met With Immediate Hacking

The PC releases of Spider-Man 2 on Steam and the Epic Games Store lacked pre-order and pre-download options, resulting in a completely unprotected 140GB distribution. This absence of pre-release access proved no obstacle to hackers, who cracked the game within an hour of its launch. The game's reportedly weak anti-piracy measures were quickly bypassed.

Sony's relatively low-key marketing campaign, coupled with system requirements revealed only a day before launch, further contributed to the ease of access for pirates. Despite this, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 currently sits at seventh place among Sony's biggest Steam releases, trailing titles like God of War, Horizon, and even Days Gone.

Initial player reception has been mixed, with a 55% positive rating on Steam based on over 1,280 reviews at the time of writing. Optimization issues, crashes, and bugs are frequently cited concerns.

In contrast, Spider-Man Remastered remains the undisputed PC champion of the series, having once boasted over 66,000 concurrent players. Whether Spider-Man 2 can match this success remains to be seen, but sustained sales suggest a strong potential for positive results over the weekend.
