'Spider-Verse' Star Silent on Sequel Lines

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 12,2025

Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production on the highly anticipated third film, Beyond the Spider-Verse, hasn't even begun. He revealed in an interview with Decider that he hasn't yet recorded any lines, and that many details are still "being figured out."

This news shouldn't come as a complete surprise, considering the five-year gap between the first and second films.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about production commencing. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in Across the Spider-Verse was relatively small, his character is poised to become a major antagonist in the third installment. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse’s ending: He plays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who emerges at the film's conclusion not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.

This alternate Miles's journey diverges significantly from the main protagonist's. The radioactive spider bite intended for him instead bit the main timeline's Miles, altering the course of both their lives. With his universe's Peter Parker deceased, Earth-42's New York fell under the control of supervillains, and Miles G. Morales became one of them.

The narrative of how this villainous Miles interacts with the main Spider-Man will likely be a central plot point in Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans will need to exercise patience, as Deadline suggests a 2026 release at the earliest, or potentially even 2028, mirroring the timeframe between the previous films.
