"Split Fiction Nears 4 Million Sales: A Boundary-Pushing Co-op Adventure"

Author:Kristen Update:May 15,2025

Hazelight's beloved cooperative adventure, Split Fiction, has achieved a remarkable milestone by selling nearly four million copies. This news was confirmed by publisher EA in their latest financial report, where they described the game's launch as "hugely successful" and credited it as a significant factor in their strong finish to the 2025 financial year.

In an enthusiastic social media post, Hazelight celebrated the achievement, stating, "4 MILLION SOLD!!!! So many of you have picked up Split Fiction already, it’s amazing... Seeing the fun you have with our game and the love you show for Mio, Zoe, and each other warms our hearts here at Hazelight. And so many hot dogs made..."

Split Fiction immerses players in the diverse worlds crafted by two fiction writers, offering a groundbreaking co-op experience where two players can enjoy the game even if only one owns it. Launched in March, the game quickly became another hit for Hazelight and its designer, Josef Fares, selling over two million copies in just one week. It's also set to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, as Hazelight begins work on their next project.

Furthermore, a movie adaptation of Split Fiction is in development, with Story Kitchen, known for the Sonic films, currently assembling the team. This includes writers, a director, and a cast that will feature Sydney Sweeney.

In our IGN Split Fiction review, we praised the game as "an expertly crafted and absorbing co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another." We noted that it's "a rollercoaster of gameplay ideas and styles that are usually discarded as quickly as they’re introduced," which keeps the experience "fabulously fresh for its full, 14-hour duration."
