StarCraft Arrives: Hearthstone Unveils Mini-Set Launch

Hearthstone's upcoming Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, launching January 21st, boasts a record-breaking 49 new cards. This expansion, a crossover with Blizzard's StarCraft universe, introduces class and multi-class cards themed around the Zerg, Protoss, and Terran factions.

The Mini-Set's card distribution includes three cards per Hearthstone class. Five faction-specific cards, including one Legendary, are available to classes aligned with each StarCraft race. A single neutral Legendary card, Grunty, completes the set. The initial reveal showcased a few cards, with further reveals planned throughout the week leading up to the launch.

Faction-Specific Card Synergies:

  • Zerg (Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, Warlock): Focuses on summoning numerous Zerglings and leveraging Hydralisks for swarm-based damage.
  • Protoss (Druid, Mage, Priest, Rogue): Centers around temporary and permanent mana manipulation to deploy high-cost cards like the Carrier.
  • Terran (Paladin, Shaman, Warrior): Integrates the Starship mechanic from Hearthstone's The Great Dark Beyond expansion, introducing new Starship Pieces and strategies for deploying multiple Starships, including a Mech-type Starship.

Pricing and Availability:

The Mini-Set's expanded size reflects in its pricing. A complete set costs $20 (or 2500 gold), a $5 (500 gold) increase over previous Mini-Sets. The all-Golden version is priced at $80 (12,000 gold). Alternatively, players can purchase individual faction packs (Protoss, Terran, or Zerg) for $10 (1200 gold) each. Cards will also be obtainable through The Great Dark Beyond card packs.

Launch Celebration Events:

Hearthstone is celebrating the Mini-Set release with two streamed events:

  • StarCast (January 23, 10 AM PST): Featuring StarCraft legends TrumpSC and Day9 showcasing the new cards.
  • HearthCraft (January 24, 9 AM PST): Showcasing Hearthstone community creators representing each faction in matches and mini-games.

Watching these Twitch streams rewards viewers with two standard and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs.
