This week's Steam Deck Weekly dives into recent gameplay experiences and reviews, focusing on several titles, including some notable discounts. Let's jump in!
Despite the yearly release cycle skepticism, NBA 2K25 stands out. This marks the first time the PC version mirrors the "Next Gen" console experience, a significant upgrade. Officially confirmed as Steam Deck optimized (though not yet officially rated by Valve), it delivers a largely positive experience, though with familiar franchise caveats.
Key improvements for PC players include ProPLAY technology (previously exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X) and the WNBA's PC debut alongside MyNBA mode. If you've held off on recent PC versions, 2K25 is the definitive edition. Here's hoping for continued PC and Steam Deck support.
The PC and Steam Deck versions boast 16:10 and 800p support, along with AMD FSR 2, DLSS, and XeSS (though I disabled these for clarity). Extensive graphical settings are available, allowing for customization of v-sync, HDR (functional on Steam Deck), texture detail, and more. Shader caching on each boot is a minor quirk. I recommend a 60fps cap at 60hz for optimal clarity and stability. The default Steam Deck preset appeared overly blurry.
Offline play is limited; MyCAREER and MyTEAM require online connection, though quick play and eras function offline. Load times, even on an SSD, are slower than on PS5/Xbox Series X. No cross-play with consoles is a noteworthy limitation.
While technically inferior to console versions, the portability factor makes Steam Deck my preferred platform. The microtransaction model remains a concern, particularly for certain modes. At a $69.99 price point, this is a significant factor to consider.
Ultimately, NBA 2K25 delivers a fantastic portable basketball experience, matching console features. With some settings adjustments, it runs smoothly. 2K has finally brought the complete experience to PC. Enjoy the game, but be mindful of the microtransactions.
NBA 2K25 Steam Deck review score: 4/5
Unverified by Valve but running smoothly, Gimmick! 2 even includes Steam Deck and Linux fixes in its latest patch. Capped at 60fps (forcing 60hz on OLED screens is recommended), it offers 16:10 menu support, though gameplay remains 16:9. No graphical options are present, but its out-of-the-box performance suggests imminent Steam Deck Verification.
While 60fps is the limit, it's not a drawback. The game's overall performance is excellent.
Arco, a dynamic turn-based RPG, shines with its pixel art visuals, compelling story, and unique combat system blending real-time and turn-based elements. The audio and narrative are particularly impressive.
Steam Deck Verified, it runs flawlessly at 60fps with 16:9 support. An assist mode (beta) offers combat skipping, infinite dynamite, and first-act skipping for replays.
Arco surpasses expectations, offering a dynamic and engaging experience. A free demo is available.
Arco Steam Deck review score: 5/5
Recently added to Steam, Skull and Bones is rated "Playable" by Valve. The initial Ubisoft Connect login process is somewhat cumbersome. For smoother performance, I recommend a 30fps cap at 16:10 and 800p, using FSR 2 quality upscaling. Lowering settings (except textures) further enhances stability.
While early in my playthrough, the game shows potential. Continued support from Ubisoft will greatly improve its overall appeal. A free trial is recommended. It's online-only.
Hard to recommend at full price, but the free trial is worth exploring.

ODDADA, a music-making experience, is a visually stunning and elegant tool for creative expression. It utilizes mouse or touch controls (no controller support yet) and runs flawlessly at 90fps. Minor drawbacks include small menu text.
Despite lacking controller support, touch controls work well. Steam Deck Verification is pending.
Highly recommended for music and art enthusiasts.
ODDADA Steam Deck review score: 4.5/5
Blending automobile simulation and space exploration, Star Trucker offers a unique gameplay loop. Visuals, writing, and radio banter are highlights. Runs on Proton Experimental. Extensive graphical options are available.
Controls are a significant challenge. Optimization for Steam Deck is desired.
Star Trucker Steam Deck review score: 4/5
A visual novel, DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia runs perfectly on Steam Deck out of the box. It’s a great follow up to DATE A LIVE: Rio Reincarnation.
Highly recommended for fans of the series.
DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia Steam Deck Review Score: 4/5
A significant update to the original, Total War: PHARAOH DYNASTIES is a much-improved experience. On Steam Deck, it's playable with trackpad and touch controls, though controller support is absent.
Pinball FX offers a robust PC port with extensive graphical options, including HDR support on Steam Deck. Gameplay is enjoyable, and the free-to-play version allows for sampling.
Highly recommended.
Notable additions include Hookah Haze and OneShot: World Machine Edition (Verified), while Black Myth: Wukong remains surprisingly Unsupported despite playable performance.
The Games from Croatia sale features discounts on the Talos Principle series and other titles.
That concludes this week's Steam Deck Weekly. Feedback is welcome!
