Strauss Zelnick Speaks on GTA 6 Delay, Stock Slump

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 28,2025

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed shareholder concerns after Rockstar announced the delay of GTA 6's release.

Rockstar recently confirmed GTA 6's launch has been postponed from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026, shifting from Take-Two's fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2027. Expected to become the most significant entertainment launch in history, the game will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Following the announcement, Take-Two's stock dropped by 7.98% during early trading. The company reaffirmed through its corporate website that it anticipates consecutive revenue growth and record net bookings throughout fiscal 2026 and 2027.

Zelnick expressed Take-Two's full support for Rockstar's decision, assuring shareholders the delay will contribute to sustained multi-year growth.

"We unequivocally support Rockstar Games' choice to extend development time for Grand Theft Auto VI," Zelnick stated. "This will allow them to deliver an industry-defining experience that surpasses fan expectations."

"While we understand the global excitement surrounding GTA VI and carefully consider our release schedules, our priority remains delivering exceptional quality. With our upcoming titles, we're positioned for prolonged business expansion and increased shareholder value."

The GTA 6 delay impacts Take-Two's projected 2026 fiscal performance, leaving investors wondering what other major releases are planned. The company's portfolio includes 2K Games' Borderlands 4 launching in September, Mafia: The Old Country later this year, and NBA 2K26. Future projects include a new BioShock installment and Ken Levine's Judas.

However, none of 2K's upcoming releases can match GTA 6's anticipated revenue potential, creating a temporary financial shortfall for Take-Two. While fans generally anticipated potential delays, many hoped for at least new promotional material to offset disappointment.
