The much-anticipated Suikoden series is set to expand its reach with the launch of its first mobile RPG, Suikoden STAR LEAP. This game promises to deliver a console-like quality experience while leveraging the accessibility of mobile gaming. Dive into the insights shared by the developers to understand how Star Leap aligns with the legacy of the Suikoden franchise.
Suikoden's new mobile venture, Suikoden STAR LEAP, aims to bring the essence of console gaming to your fingertips. In an interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu elaborated on Konami's decision to go mobile. "Our goal is to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible. Mobile is the most convenient platform for this, and we're committed to ensuring that Star Leap retains the true spirit of Suikoden," Fujimatsu stated. The team is dedicated to crafting a game that not only matches the quality of console games in terms of visuals, sounds, and storytelling but also embraces the ease of mobile play.
Fujimatsu highlighted the core elements that make Suikoden unique, emphasizing the series' focus on themes of war and friendship. "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, we aim to showcase the saga of the new 108 stars," he explained. Director Yoshiki Meng Shan added that the game balances a lively atmosphere with serious moments, reflecting the series' signature blend of camaraderie and conflict. "The fast-paced battles, involving many characters working together, are also a hallmark of Suikoden," Meng Shan noted.
Suikoden STAR LEAP is designed to serve as both a sequel and a prequel, weaving through various eras of the Suikoden universe. The narrative begins two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and spans across different timelines, integrating seamlessly into the series' official canon. Fujimatsu urged fans to anticipate the high-quality experience, stating, "We've made Star Leap accessible for newcomers through its mobile format, ensuring an easy entry into the world of Suikoden Genso." Meng Shan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the team's meticulous attention to every aspect of the game, from its story and graphics to its battle system and sound design, to uphold the esteemed reputation of the Suikoden series.
Suikoden STAR LEAP was unveiled during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other exciting projects in the series. The game is in development for iOS and Android platforms, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
