Nintendo Switch 2 Sells 3.5M Units in Four Days, Hits Record

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 24,2025

In a landmark achievement for the company, Nintendo has announced the Switch 2 has become its fastest-selling hardware platform globally, moving over 3.5 million units within its first four days.

Nintendo confirmed the news on social media, stating: "#NintendoSwitch2 has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware ever globally."

This record was likely made possible by strong initial stock availability—a contrast to past hardware launches from Nintendo and its competitors. It also aligns with statements from Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser, who assured ample supply of Switch 2 units would be ready to meet U.S. consumer demand.

By comparison, the original Nintendo Switch sold 2.74 million units in its entire launch month.

The announcement follows recent industry reports from the UK, which named the Switch 2 as Nintendo's fastest-selling console in that market's history, overtaking the previous record held by the Nintendo 3DS.

In our ongoing Nintendo Switch 2 review, we noted: "So far, this sequel meets expectations as an iterative upgrade to an already excellent console. It modernizes many outdated features, refines countless design details in noticeable ways, and introduces an ambitious new control scheme that, while impressive, isn't quite as smooth in practice as we had hoped."
