Travis Willingham Confirms 'Any Day' Release for Critical Role Video Game Announcement

Excitement is building as the popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of unveiling its first major video game. CEO Travis Willingham has hinted that an announcement could come "any day" now. This revelation came during an insightful interview with Business Insider, where the team discussed their expansive plans for the future. While details such as the game's title and its exact connection to the Critical Role universe are still under wraps, Willingham assured that the dedicated team is tirelessly working on the project.

Willingham elaborated on the interactive nature of the upcoming game, stating, "They'll actually be getting their hand on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria." This suggests that players will have a direct impact on the narrative, allowing for a personalized experience within the rich tapestry of Critical Role's world.

Since its start, the D&D show has evolved into a vast universe of stories, with one of its most celebrated projects being the Amazon Prime Video series, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

The forthcoming Critical Role video game will complement its existing projects without necessarily being a direct continuation of any current storylines. In a December 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Willingham mentioned that the team was in "active pursuit" of creating a Critical Role video game spinoff, indicating they were nearing the end of a multi-year development journey. It remains uncertain whether the game will follow one of the group's various campaigns or introduce a new story within the world of Exandria.

Originally, the team anticipated making an announcement by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Now, as we progress into the third month of 2025, the announcement seems imminent. Willingham shared with Rolling Stone, "Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels. You know, there’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now. And we’ve seen studios sort of bear and weather those strains. It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem."

While a release date for the Critical Role video game has yet to be announced, fans can stay engaged by exploring the first details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
