Dynasty Warriors: Origins lacks a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. While sprinting offers decent speed, traversing large battlefields to rescue officers and secure victory often necessitates faster travel.

This is where your mount becomes invaluable. Summonable at any time, in both the overworld and during battles, your horse allows for rapid movement and even enables mounted combat for a hit-and-run approach. Here's how to acquire your first horse, improve its abilities, and switch between different mounts.

How To Unlock Your First Steed in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

A free horse awaits in Chapter 1! After completing the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant appears in the overworld on the route to the Battle Of Guangzong. He's located northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp. Simply speak to him to receive your first mount, which will be automatically equipped.

Summon your horse by pressing down on the left joystick (console) or V (keyboard).

How To Enhance Your Mount in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on completed missions, even if you don't actively ride it. However, skirmishes do not award XP. Missions, indicated by a red diamond with a soldier icon, offer medium-length battles ideal for earning XP. The XP earned depends on battle duration and how much you ride and charge into enemies. Leveling up your horse unlocks unique buffs at specific intervals, varying for each mount.

How To Change Mounts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While your initial mount is automatically equipped, additional horses can be obtained and used. Manage your mounts in the Battle Preparation menu, the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse possesses unique advantages, with some boasting superior speed and capabilities. Consider switching to optimize your performance. Acquiring new mounts requires maximizing the peace level of a region. A new horse will then be available at a nearby waypoint as a reward.
