Utomik, the cloud gaming subscription service, is set to shutter

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 18,2025

Utomik, a cloud gaming service launched in 2022, is ceasing operations. This marks another significant development in the competitive cloud gaming market. Adoption remains low, with only 6% of gamers subscribing to cloud services as of 2023.

While cloud gaming's future is uncertain, Utomik's closure highlights the challenges faced by smaller, third-party providers. Unlike established players like Nvidia, Xbox, and PlayStation with extensive game libraries, Utomik faced an uphill battle. The integration of cloud gaming into existing console ecosystems further complicates the landscape. Xbox Cloud Gaming, for instance, now leverages existing game libraries, strengthening the link between cloud gaming and the console market.
